It's not an animated series, it's live action. So I changed the title of this thread from "animated series" to "TV series".

I agree: hope they don't fawk it up, but I fear they will. Somehow I don't see the Disney folks keeping the ehh, let's say, heavy S&M bits in the first part.

"Legend of the Seeker". First episode airs on November 1, 2008. 22 episodes are planned. I'll see if I can find it in the "import" on November 2, to see if they didn't fawk it up.
Cast:

Craig Horner as Richard

Bridget Regan as Kahlan

Bruce Spence as Zedd

More news, pics and trailers(!!!!) here.
I must admit: it looks good... so far.

I 'imported' the first and second episode and I must admit: it ain't bad. Not exactly following the book, they're cutting some corners but that's usual when turning a book into a film. And it looks good. Not exactly what I had in mind when I read it, but that's also usual when making a film of a book. So I can recommend The.Legend.of.the.Seeker.S01E01E02.HDTV.XviD-LOL.avi (700 megabytes, 1 hour 27 minutes) .

Good point, and let's not forget that it's made by the Disney company with the American TV market in mind. So they need a strong "knight in shining armour" type, a princess type who is beautiful, smart, can take care of herself but still needs a man's help, and a mysterious wizard character who tells us you can achieve anything if you try hard enough. And they can't show too much blood and guts because that chases away the advertisers.
Now I haven't seen the complete double episode yet, but have there been any dragons or long or short tailed gars yet? I hope they haven't written them out.

For those of you that havent seen eps 1 and 2 here is a link. DL it if your going to watch it buffer times are crazy long stagevu is not stage6. Haven't watched it yet so im not going to read any of your posts just yet ^^

EDIT: ok they fucked it up, GG. They should just call it something other then The Sword of Truth it has nothing to do with the books other then the characters having the same names.

well, i thought it was pretty decent. follows the story pretty well as far as i can remember.
except for the part that they should have called the 4 persuers "quad", it was pretty dead on.
Granted.. its not as detailed as the book, but what movie is

I agree. Just look at LotR or even Harry Potter: the books are more detailed. There is more background information, more description of the characters, more sidelines in the story. But I don't think they fawked it up this time, they just condensed the story and left out some stuff they can't show on US tv.
And we the viewers expect a lot of action and fast paced stuff, so partly we're to blame for it.
I just watched a classic movie again, The Good the Bad and the Ugly. If that was made today every scene would be 50% shorter and 100% faster. Except for the action scenes, which would be 100% longer.

Its alot more then just some of the details, they left out parts and changed things that totaly upend the story later on. The night stone for one, zedd not being the father of the women that gives birth to Richard, the book of counted shadows that richard gets from his father and burns after memorizing. All these things are very important in the later development of the story line.

and Darken Rahl looks like pussy and not the evil force portrayed in the books.

although i have to agree, i think/hope that that will be revealed in part 3 or 4
if they leave that out, it would be rather a big let down. the part of zed being his grandfather IS kinda a big thing... and the part about him memorizing the book also.
but, i have part 4 under my button atm.. so i'll get back to you about that tomorrow

Episode 4 is available now.
You know... I'm beginning to doubt this show. I still don't think they completely fawked it up but more and more you have to see this as a tv show that's losely based on the book(s). And sometimes it's not easy doing just that.

Not sure which episode was on this weekend, but I finally got to watch it. I was interested in seeing the whole thing, but never could remember when it came on.

Oh...and they do let it out that Zedd is Richard's grandfather in the last episode, so just have patience. All in all, I liked the one episode I managed to catch. I was pleasantly surprised to see that people actually got killed and that it showed blood on weapons. I was figuring it would be all "pussified" being from Disney and all.

That was episode 4. And although it's not a kiddy show by far, compared to the books the action actually is pussified a lot.
And as far as the pussyifying of action or violence is concerned, I'm beginning to dread episode 8 when Denna shows up.

Default Re: OMG... Sword of Truth TV series!

I have yet to see any book made into a TV show or movie that lived up to the cool fight scenes I envisioned while reading the book. One of my favorite books from my youth was Beastmaster. Now, that movie only had one thing in common with the book: the Beastmaster's band of critters. The book was way more entertaining and set way in the future, not the past...with lots more violence and bloodshed.

While I liked the movie (I'm a sucker for cheezy sci-fi/fantasy movies), the book totally killed it when it came to the entertainment value. It has been quite a while since I read any of the Sword of Truth, but I see it as the same (although much closer to the book than Beastmaster): a decent adaptation that keeps me entertained for a while, but doesn't hold up to what I envisioned while reading it. Just like every book I liked that has been made in to a film (except Sin City...exactly like I envisioned it...although the pictures helped ).

I'm looking forward to The Hobbit movie (due 2011) although I know it won't look as good as the book 'looked' in my mind, when I read it. But I'll accept it because I know everybody has a different image in mind, different faces, voices, monsters etc. I'm pretty sure they'll do well with Smaug, the dragon. He's gonna look good.
Comic books are both more difficult and more easy: you know exactly what everyone and everything is supposed to look like but it's damn hard to get the right feel to the pics. Plus there's the difficulty of writing decent dialogues to a comic book adaptation.

Maybe not. They had a lot of talk about sex between two unmarried people and use of "protections" against pregnancy. Could be they will make her seriously hot just to throw in that all the bad girls are way hot and to be avoided to save your soul/life .

Hotness...with a moral

Yeah okay, I see that possibility... "Look out for hot chicks, they could cost you your life".
Anyway, episode 5 was on last weekend and available for import to us folks outside the USA. So three more weeks before we find out about Denna.
